A member of Class Equisetopsida that includes the Horsetails, Dendrobium are a genus of epiphytic orchid closely related to the Magnolias.

Like the Magnolias, they are one of the most ancient flowering plants with fossil leaves having been found in strata dating back to the Miocene.

Native nowadays to China, Indo-China and Nepal, these plants were once much more widespread and have been found across Asia and Oceania from India to The Philippines, from China to New Zealand.
