Living Fossils |
Living fossils are organisms that, in defiance of the principles of evolution, have remained relatively unchanged over millions of years. Some, like crocodiles and aligators, have been known throughout human history. Others, like the coelacanth, were known only from the fossil record until live specimens were discovered off the coast off southern Africa in 1938.
Today, hundreds of living fossils have been identified. Here are a few of the more well known ones:-
